My Journey of Healing

ree

"The wound is the place where the Light enters you." - Rumi

It's been 10 years since my cancer diagnosis. Since I woke up. Since I realized that I was not consciously living my life, that I was hiding, that I was allowing fear to drive.

Acknowledging

Some of you may already know this part of my story.

When I got the phone call that it was breast cancer, I fell to my knees. Not only because a diagnosis feels devastating. It was because in that instant I knew that everything I had previously thought about Life, including the choices I made to stay safe and small, was eviscerated.

And when your context for living implodes, you are invited to create a new one.

Slowly I began to consciously engage in my life, to be proactive, to ask myself what I wanted out of this "wild and precious life".

I knew there was more, and I wanted to become all of who I knew, deep down, I was meant to be. I gave myself permission to be messy, imperfect and free. To create a life that I loved and to bring all of myself to this experience. To take risks and to create. To live from a place of love, not fear.

For me, that diagnosis had many silver linings. It woke me up when I refused to listen to the voice inside me that had been nudging me for years, begging me to recognize her, and to allow her into the Light. I have gone back and held her. I have created safety for her to emerge.

"To free the voice is to free the person."

Ongoing healing

So many modalities speak to me, and I am a huge proponent of diving in and finding the MORE that I know is there. I am a multifaceted being, as we all are. I began to explore my spiritual aspect more intentionally as well as emotional trauma and limiting beliefs that I had unknowingly taken on. I began to allow all of the parts of me to be equally recognized and deemed important.

Yoga and meditation are my strongholds - they are the things I return to when I feel ungrounded or disconnected from myself.

I began exploring sound healing, and how using my own voice in certain ways could help me to feel deeply aligned with the truth of who I am and my purpose. As a singer/songwriter for many decades, I already knew the inherent healing power of music and using my voice to express emotion. I knew how connected I felt, how whole and calm. But this discovery - using my voice as a sound healing instrument - took healing to a whole new level. It was then that I developed programs to help others do the same. Teaching others about the power of their voice is my passion. Because we each have a unique voice and our voice is the tool we use to communicate who we are, and what matters to us. Our voice is a built-in tool we can access for our own healing. There is so much power in learning to love and to use our voices.
